I am humbled to announce that The Artist Dave White has been awarded the BEST Professional in the Abstract and Experimental category in the SAA Artist of the Year 2015 competition for “mini seas 4 (r)” and it goes on public display in London July 23rd- 25th!
The background to this painting initially comes from an enquiry from Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington to contribute a painting on a 20 x 20cm block canvas for their Twenty20 2015 charity auction which I was very happy to do. But I liked the size and shape of the canvas so much that I thought that I might do a series of seascape paintings to support their event and the launch of my new book “Sea and Sky in Acrylics” in September 2015. So this was one of the paintings in that series called “mini seas 004” which ventured into using a number of acrylic techniques to depict an image I had in my memory of a rainy holiday in Cornwall, leaping from rock to rock to escape an incoming tide whilst a squall threw rain hard into my face and down the rock hewn steps which led to my escape. The painting is completed with a painting knife and a lot of finger blending and spattering to create the feel of the moment.
